October 1, 2010Rob Zombie recently collaborated with Universal Studios Hollywood to create a new 3D maze called "Rob Zombie's House Of 1000 Corpses In 3D ZombieVision" as part of Universal's annual "Halloween Horror Nights" event. According to a press release, "fans [are being] treated to a nightmarish world of carnage and chaos Rob Zombie-style based upon Zombie's cult hit film 'House Of 1000 Corpses'." The attraction is one of five mazes based on popular horror movies at the event. "Halloween Horror Nights" kicked off last Friday (September 24) and runs through the end of October.
Check out video footage below to see some of the guests' reactions at the attraction as they are horrified and thrilled by Universal Studios Hollywood's professional scare-actors.
As previously reported, Rob Zombie's next directorial project will be "The Lords Of Salem", a thriller set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit, and will shoot next year.
This is the third entry in a new horror slate deal between Haunted Movies and Alliance Films. The first picture to come out of this partnership is "Insidious", written and directed by the original "Saw" team of James Wan and Leigh Whannel, and starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. "Insidious" premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival on September 14 and immediately was the subject of a bidding war, which was won by Sony Pictures, who will handle the release of the film later this year. The second picture is "The Bay", helmed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson and currently shooting in South Carolina.
Octane, IM Global's genre arm, is handling international sales on the Haunted Movies slate, including on "The Lords Of Salem".
Haunted Movies is a partnership between Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Oren Peli, the same team behind the box-office phenomenon "Paranormal Activity" (Paramount, 2009) and "Paranormal Activity 2" (set for release by Paramount this October).
"The Lords Of Salem" will be produced by Blum, Schneider, and Peli, Zombie and Zombie's producing partner, Andy Gould. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik will executive produce.
"What excited me most was Jason saying, 'You can have total control over the script, casting and final cut,'" Zombie told Deadline.com. "I said, 'I'm in.'"
A deluxe edition of Zombie's latest album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", arrived on September 28. It contains three new tracks called "Everything Is Boring", "Michael" and "Devil's Hole Girls And The Big Revolution", plus an alternate version of "The Man Who Laughs", a brand new video for "Mars Needs Women", a live version of Alice Cooper's classic "School's Out" performed with Cooper, and a 30-minute DVD featuring a tour documentary.
